Children's Ministries
Sunday School
Every Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 classes meet grouped according to age. Our Bible-centered curriculum is presented in age-appropriate and personally applicable ways through singing, games, lessons, Bible memory, and activities that will involve each child in worship. Parties, athletic events, picnics, and special seasonal programs are also an important part of our Sunday School program.
Nursery
During every regular church service, quality nursery care is provided for all children from
birth to three years of age. The nursery suite provides rooms for sleeping infants,
nursing mothers, creepers, and toddlers. Age-appropriate toys, activities, and snacks
are provided for each age group. An electronic paging system provides parents immediate access and peace of mind.
Children’s Church
A special Sunday morning worship service is planned each week for all children through 3rd grade. The younger children (age 2 and 3) spend the entire service singing, hearing a Bible lesson, having a snack, doing some crafts, and learning to play together. The older children learn to worship with the adults in the church service until their dismissal before the sermon; then they continue with more singing, purposeful games, a Bible lesson, and a fun story time that always teaches them to apply what they have learned.
AWANA
The Awana Club of Berean Baptist Church is our largest outreach to the children of Bunker Hill and the surrounding communities. All children, from age three to sixth grade, are invited to attend each Wednesday evening during the school year from 6:30 to 8:30. We maintain a trained staff of approximately thirty adult leaders and offer transportation on church vans from the nearby towns of Benld, Dorchester, Gillespie, and Staunton.
The Awana Club nights involve a Game Time of fun and friendly competition, a Handbook Time for clubbers to study in small groups with their leader and complete sections and activities in graded handbooks, and a Bible Time for a brief and timely lesson. The Awana Club year includes several special activities and events both during and outside of the club nights which welcome the entire family.
- Cubbies
Cubbies is a two-year program for children who turn three years of age by September 1st. The program requires parental participation. Cubbies is centered on a zoo motif, with a “Cubbie Bear” mascot, and encourages Bible memorization along with popular preschool concepts of colors, shapes, numbers, and letters. The Cubbies are a highlight each year when they run their Apple Tree Obstacle Course.
- Sparks
Sparks is designed for Kindergartners, first, and second graders. “Sparky” is the firefly mascot who encourages the Sparks to complete the Bible memorization and related activities in the handbooks that feature a nature theme. Sparks enjoy hiking adventures together and participate in an annual “Big Wheel” Deal.
- T&T
Truth & Training is the club for all third through sixth graders. The four handbooks contain Bible memorization, projects, and activities with outer space, underwater, archeological, and outdoor themes. In addition to many special activities and contests, T&T clubbers compete in the annual Grand Prix.
Music
The Kids Choir invites all first through sixth grade children to join the fun on Wednesday evenings during the summer Prayer Meeting hour. The children gain a basic music education while learning to glorify God through the preparation of several songs which are presented during Sunday worship services.
Children may also minister through music by providing offertories and special music during church services and being involved in the Sunday School Christmas Program.
Summer Activities
- VBS
Each summer Berean Baptist Church hosts an action-packed week of Vacation Bible School. Children enjoy several hours spent in exciting competition, games, crafts, snacks, and interesting Bible lessons and activities. The fun is contagious!
- Camping
Berean Baptist Church supports Camp Manitoumi a ministry of the IL-MO Association of Regular Baptist Churches, in Lowpoint, IL. All children who have completed third grade through high school teens are offered a week of camp designed specifically for them. Berean’s scholarship program provides each camper with the opportunity to earn his camping fees. Men, women, seniors, and families also enjoy special retreats and vacations at Camp Manitoumi.
